I have dreamed of being a writer ever since I was a little boy growing up in Northeast Texas. My imagination has always been wild and carefree. My first typewriter was a little plastic blue toy typewriter when I was 10 years old. I wore that thing out writing stories and screenplays, even though I didn’t know the first thing how to do so. When I was in high school, I told myself and my friends that I would write a novel one day, and then life happened. All these years later most of those friends are gone, even a friend or two who inspired characters within these pages. It took me 14 years to write my novel, Hale County, the only thing in my life I never truly compromised. While I was writing Hale County I also wrote many other books. So, to that young me sitting on the hardwood floor those many decades ago, typing away, letting that imagination soar, I just want to say, “we did it.”

There are many more stories to tell.

Praise

Hale County - For someone who does not enjoy reading, this book was a pleasant surprise. It is very well written and so descriptive that you feel like you’re watching a movie rather than reading a book. You feel like you’re right there in the story. That is the thing I like the most about the book is how creatively descriptive it is.. The story kept you guessing. This book has fantasy, mystery, drama, and romance. It has the right amount of everything. I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend the read.

Hale County is a book I can’t stop thinking about. The epitome of book hangover. I enjoyed the intro to all the main characters as I got to learn about each & get a feel for who/what they were as the story unfolds. Growing up knowing of some of the characters made it almost real in certain aspects, & I felt I was a character watching a play the whole time I read this book. The story has so many twists & caught me by surprise numerous times. Definitely a story that’s on my “reread” shelf. A big thanks to Chad Martin for thinking of us book lovers & writing a fantastic read!

Hale County is an amazing book that glues you to it to see what happens next. Mr Martin makes you feel like you are a part of the story and I can't wait to read his other novels!!!
